Tourism in Cuba

Varadero is the main tourist resort in Cuba - in fact there are probably a lot of visitors who only see this part of the island. (Visitors have to pay a toll and I believe Cubans have to have an official reason to visit. That said, I read that it is becoming a popular destination for the better off Cubans, who - due mainly to tipping by tourists - are typically waiters, taxi drivers and the like.) After a couple of days in Havana it was our turn to sit by the pool - a task I'm not really suited to.

As with many of my black and white photos, this was shot with a B+W orange filter, hence the almost-black sea and the dark sky.
Varadero is about 2.5 hours by taxi from Havana airport.
